Overcoming the world can be a transformative journey. In a society that often promotes values contrary to the gospel of Jesus Christ, overcoming the world becomes a spiritual quest, requiring Christ-like discipleship and having an eternal perspective.
The scriptures teach, "Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2). Overcoming the world involves aligning our values with eternal truths taught by the Savior, resisting worldly influences, and finding strength in the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
President Benson counseled, "The Lord works from the inside out. The world works from the outside in. The world would take people out of the slums. Christ takes the slums out of people, and then they take themselves out of the slums."
